Kazakhstan students celebrate Nauryz in 7 countries

Nuaryz is be celebrated by Kazakhstan citizens in dozens of cities around the world, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of the Center of International Programs. The holiday programs have been prepared by Kazakhstan students in seven countries: Great Britain, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Russia, China and Singapore. The celebrations are held from March 16 to 30 this year. The students of three London universities (UCL, Queen Mary and City University) were the first ones to celebrate the holiday on March 16. Kazakhstan students in New York will be the last to celebrate. They are planning to celebrate Nauryz for two days. The biggest student event will be held in London on March 23. Kazakhstan citizens are organizing it jointly with six youth organizations of Turkic-speaking countries. They want to introduce the visitors of the celebrations to the rich culture of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Tatarstan. Each of 1,000 expected guests will be able to taste national food, see performances of national artists and actors and play national games of the six countries. Kazakhstan citizens have prepared the traditional Kazakh yurt (mobile dwelling of nomadic peoples) and representatives of Uzbekistan will cook the famous Uzbek plov (a dish of rice and meat and other ingredients). All the money they will raise will be spent on charity. March 23 will see a record number of international celebratory events. The celebrations will be smaller in scale but wider in geography than on the other days. Besides London, the celebrations are planned in Edinburgh, Dublin, Shanghai, Toronto and Indiana state. On March 24 Kazakhstan students will celebrate Nauryz in Moscow. The largest celebration of Nauryz abroad will be organized by the Center of International Programs on March 27 with support of Kazakhstan’s state organizations and international communities. According to the press-service of Bolashak Association, around 2 thousand guests are expected at the event. “The guests will be introduced to traditions of celebration of Nauryz that is one of the favorite spring holidays of Kazakhstan people,” the press-service writes. Ambassadors of the Turkic-speaking countries and Russia have been invited to the event. Nauryz was celebrated Arizona University in the U.S. yesterday. Just like in London, Kazakh yurt was installed there. The guests saw traditional Kazakh clothes and tried national food. Kazakhstan will start celebrating Nauryz on March 22. Fans in Almaty will be able to attend a concert of Sophie Ellis-Bextor as a special treat for the holiday. Astana residents will be offered 30 thousand serves of baursaks (national fried doughnuts) and plov. British Manchester students are promising to celebrate the same way Astana will.
