Kazakhstanis will be celebrating spring equinox holiday Nauryz for 5 days, Tengrinews reports. The long-awaited holiday that symbolizes the beginning of new life is usually celebrated for 3 days in Kazakhstan. Nauryz has roots in Zoroastrianism, but nowadays it is considered a secular holiday. It is celebrated by people of different religions and denominations. Lucky Kazakhstanis are having a 5-days-long break thanks to the calendar. The Republic Square will be cordoned off for a mass celebration. On March 22, Almaty natives and guests are warmly welcomed to enjoy a concert of traditional Kazakh artists. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. a children’s festival Almaly KZ will open up with a concert. A Kazakhstani band called JCS will take the stage after 5 p.m. and entertain the public until 8 p.m. along with Nomad team of stuntmen. The celebration will be traditionally concluded by a grand fireworks show at 10 p.m. Today, many Almaty folks had a chance to take a bit of free baursaki (doughnut-like pastries) at Arbat on Zhybek Zholi street. Other Kazakhstani cities are celebrating Nauryz too. The capital Astana is to surprise locals and visitors with Nauryz festivities. Happy Nauryz to all Tengrinews readers wherever you are right now. Let the spring bring you sunshine and happiness!
