On the introduction of facial recognition system reported the general prosecutor Berik Asylov on his page in social network X.
Asylov reported that the general prosecutor’s Office has intensified its efforts to track fugitives by utilizing video surveillance cameras in crowded places. Prosecutors have already identified and taken action against 53 fugitives through this monitoring.
"Since August, we have connected our IT development, incorporating AI, to the surveillance cameras in Almaty and Atyrau to automatically identify fugitives, debtors, and missing persons. Within just two days, we have already identified two fugitives and two missing persons," Asylov said.
He added that AI-enhanced cameras can even locate individuals whose appearances have significantly changed over time, either through personal efforts or the passage of years.
General prosecutor has ordered the introduction of a facial recognition system in all regions.
According to the main supervisory body, more than 9,000 people are now wanted, including 2,200 criminals and 2,000 missing persons.
