Orbital tests of the second national communications satellite KazSat-2 will be completed in October, KazTAG reports citing the State Space Center.

“KazSat-2 is currently flying to the set orbital position, which is 86.5 degresateast longitude; it will get there around August 29, 2011. All satellite’s systems are stable,” the message states.

Besides, the Space Center stated that orbital tests of KazSat-2 “are scheduled to be completed by October 19, 2011.”

KazSat-2 was launched from Baikonur cosmodrome on July 16. The control system of KazSat-2 was developed by French company EADS-Astrum. The communication and broadcast satellite coveres Kazakhstan, Central Asia and parts of Russia. Kazakh National Center of Space Communications will be operating the satellite. The satellite weighs 1,330 kg.

Earlier chairman of Kazakhstan National Space Agency Talgat Mussabayev said that the Agency is looking for a possibility to involve such Western companies as Thales AleniaSpace, EADS Аstrium, as well as Russian company Information Satellite Systems in construction of KazSat-3.

First Kazakhstan satellite KazSat-1 constructed by Russian Khrunichev Center was launched from Baikonur cosmodrome in June 2006. In 2008 the satellite was lost: "There were problems in the satellite control system,” space experts say. Principles and conditions of cooperation in construction of KazSat satellites, bringing them to the orbit and creation of Kazakhstan space communications system are defined in the agreement between governments of Russia and Kazakhstan signed in Moscow in 2005.
