Nazarbayev will participate in anti-nuclear conference in Astana

An international conference called From Nuclear Test Ban to Nuclear Weapons Free World will be held in Kazakhstan on August 27-29. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev will participate and deliver a speech at the conference, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Altai Abibullayev, official spokesman of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry. According to the spokesman, the conference will consist of two parts: on August 28 the participants will visit the National Nuclear Center's facilities in Kurchatov and Semey, hold a meeting devoted to closure of Semipalatisk Nuclear Test Site, and on August 29 the conference will continue at the Palace of Independence in Astana. An appeal From Nuclear Test Ban to Nuclear Weapons Free World is expected to become the final document of the conference. Delegates from 60 countries, representatives of foreign policy administrations, prominent retired politicians, who made a significant contribution to disarmament and nonproliferation, experts and representatives of non-governmental organizations will take part in the event.
