Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held expanded-format talks with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
During the negotiations, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed that the level of cooperation between the two countries fully reflects the spirit of their strategic partnership.
"I want to emphasize that I consider you one of the most pragmatic leaders I have ever met. Interacting with someone who deeply understands the complexity of current challenges is extremely valuable. It is encouraging that even in these difficult times there are good news, one of which is the exceptional relationship between Italy and Kazakhstan. Our ties are at a high level, and we have repeatedly noted this. But there are always opportunities for further strengthening - this is exactly the purpose of this visit. We recognize the importance of your country and region as a historic crossroads connecting West and East," said Meloni.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues covering key areas of bilateral cooperation.
“The mutual interest in further strengthening the partnership and implementing new initiatives to promote progressive development of Kazakh-Italian relations was confirmed,” Akorda’s statement said.
Earlier, President Tokayev and Prime Minister Meloni met in Akorda to discuss prospects for expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit on May 29 at the invitation of President Tokayev. He personally greeted her at Astana airport with a bouquet of pink peonies.
Giorgia Meloni is the first woman in history to hold the post of Italy’s Prime Minister since October 22, 2022. She previously served as Minister for Youth Policies in the fourth Berlusconi government. She has led the Brothers of Italy party since 2014 and the European Conservatives and Reformists party since 2020.
