December 14 Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev met Russia’s PM Dmitry Medvedev, according to Akorda.kz, President’s official website.

The sides dwelt on promising vectors of the bilateral cooperation in trade and economic, energy, transit and transport realms, and broached the subject of interaction within integration entities, and acute issues on the regional and international agendas.

Kazakhstan’s President emphasized that the cooperation between the two nations had been developing based on mutual confidence and trust. “Starting from January 1, 2015, the two nations will be cooperating as part of the Eurasian Economic Union. There has been a certain decrease in the bilateral trade in monetary terms; however, the physical amount has been on the rise and JVs have seen expansion. Once prices for commodities recover, the trade figures are set to change significantly for the better. Shared customs borders, freedom of movement of people and cargoes are a great benefit for people of the two nations”, President Nazarbayev said.

In his turn, Russia’s PM emphasized the growing interaction between the two nations. “The two nations are close partners. There is a serious integration process ahead (…) you were the one standing at the origins [of the Eurasian Economic Union] . Let me congratulate You and people of Kazakhstan on the forthcoming Independence Day [to be celebrated December 16]”, Russia’s PM Dmitry Medvedev is quoted as saying.

Following the talks, Dmitry Medvedev posted a picture of Akorda, Astana-based Presidential Residence, on his Instagram.
“My visit to Astana started with the talks with the country’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev. December 16 our friends, Kazakhstanis, will be celebrating Independence Day. Congratulations!”, the caption reads.
