Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have to closely cooperate in countering terrorism, Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Jawed Ludin as saying at the meeting with Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov during his visit to Kazakhstan. “We discussed countering terrorism. Terrorism is not exclusively a national problem of Afghanistan. This is a regional problem. The approaches to solving it should also be regional. Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have to closely cooperate in countering terrorism, as the countries are located close to each other and the security issues are linked. This means that their solutions have to be linked as well,” Afghanistan’s deputy Foreign Minister said. The meeting also covered preparation for the coming conference of Istanbul Process to be held in Almaty in April 2013. Yerlan Idrissov noted that Kazakhstan had made significant efforts in preparation of the conference, where 13 countries of the region and other interested states will discuss regional approach to Afghanistan’s problems. According to Jawed Ludin, the officials also discussed ways to ensure security in Afghanistan, including after 2014, when the international security troops leave the country. “I assured my colleague that Afghan forces are ready for the withdrawal of the international troops. We are not discussing bringing of any additional peace-making forces after 2014. I think that foreign troops can not resolve the issue. First of all, we are discussing cooperation and running consultations with Kazakhstan. Economic and investment issues are the key issues for us,” Jawed Ludin said. Ludin passed his best wishes to Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev from President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. According to deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, the talks with deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Sarybayev will continue during the day. “We discussed bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan in several areas. Kazakhstan is an important country that helps our country in many things, including in education. Kazakhstan gave over 100 educational grants to Afghan students. They study here and then will go back to their country. We are calling to continue our cooperation in trade and expand the investment cooperation. This will be further discussed during my visit,” Jawed Ludin said. By Baubek Konyrov
