FBI Director invited to Kazakhstan

Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Akshat Daulbayev has invited Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey to Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports referring to the press office of the General Prosecutor’s Office. During the official visit to the United States, Akhat Daulbayev met with heads of federal law enforcement agencies. At the meeting with the FBI Director, the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan discussed bilateral judicial cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, cyber crime, and money-laundering. In addition, they talked about personnel development and organizing and conducting forensic and polygraph tests and investigations. Askhat Daulbayev and James Comey were satisfied with the level of cooperation reached by their countries. The Prosecutor General noted that Kazakhstan was fully cooperating with experienced American counterparts in combating crime, international legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition. The Prosecutor General told James Comey about the steps taken by the Kazakhstan Prosecutor General’s Office to ensure law and order. He stressed that the prosecutors specifically focused on protection of human rights during criminal prosecution. The FBI officials presented the latest achievement of the National Joint Terrorism Task Force (NJTTF) in fighting terrorism, drug trafficking, organized and financial crimes, prosecution and polygraph investigation. At the end of the meeting, the Prosecutor General invited the FBI Director to visit Kazakhstan. In addition, Akhat Daulbayev visited the Washington DC Police Department, FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The Washington DC Police officers showed the latest achievements in countering terrorism, fighting street crime and the work of the Operation Control Center. At the FBI Academy, the Prosecutor General studied the system of personnel training, the material, technical and the scientific-methods base of the institution. At the meeting with Director of the DEA Michele Leonhart, Askhat Daulbayev discussed combating drug trafficking and expressed readiness to enhance cooperation to eradicate international organized crime. As a part of Daulbayev’s visit to the United States, the Prosecutor General also planned to meet with Attorney General Eric Holder. In 2009 the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with the FBI, which states that both parties would cooperate in the fight against organized crime and money-laundering.
