The Senate of Kazakhstan has asked Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, to consider the possibility of holding early presidential election in the country, Tengrinews reports from a parliament session on February 19.

Having considered at the plenary session the appeal of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan to hold early presidential election, the Speaker of the upper chamber of Kazakhstan's parliament Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said: "The initiative is certainly timely."

He reminded that the citizens were attributing all the important achievements of Kazakhstan to President Nazarbayev . "This is a fair assessment of the Leader of the Nation. I propose to adopt a statement supporting the initiative of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan," Tokayev said, addressing the Senators.

"Honorable Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Senate of the Parliament fully supports the initiative put forward by the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan to hold the early presidential elections. This initiative is necessitated by time itself and has been positively received by the Kazakhstani society," the Speaker said.

Support for the early election initiative was also declared by other senators. Senator Mukhtar Altynbayev, ex-Minister of Defence of Kazakhstan, said: "The military fully support this."

After that 42 Senator voted: 41 votes were cast in favour of the early elections and 1 against.

They then voted again at the end of the plenary session on the initiative proposed by the People’s Assembly. The one vote against was recognized as a technical error. "It was somebody voting inadvertently," Tokayev said about that one vote. This meant that the Senate unanimously supported holding the presidential elections in 2015 instead of 2016 in Kazakhstan.
