“Askar Zhumagaliev has been appointed the Chairman of the Board. The Minister of Energy Vladimir Shkolnik and the Chairman of the Board of Samruk Kazyna Umirzak Shukeev introduced the new Chairman Askar Zhumagaliev, the former Vice Minister of Investments and Development to the company's staff. His appointment was approved at the early meeting of the company's directors and by the government,” the spokesperson of the company said.
In turn, Zhumagaliev promised to justify the trust of President Nazarbayev. “I am sad to replace my (deceased) friend. We worked together with Nurlan Kapparov and helped each other out. I will continue the work started by Nurlan Kapparov,” Zhumagaliev said via the press office.
The former Chairman of the Board of KazAtomProm Nurlan Kapparov died from a heart failure on March 26 while in China. On March 31, Aidar Arifkhanov was appointed as the acting Chairman of the Board.
Askar Zhumagaliev worked as the Vice Minister of Investments and Development of Kazakhstan since August 2014. From 2010 to 2014, Zhumagaliev worked on implementation of 3G, 4G, MNP and digital TV in Kazakhstan, development of electronic government and modernization of public service centers. Zhumagaliev also developed standards for public transportation system, opened specialized Public Service Centers, promoted of Kazakhstani content on local TV channels, opened Balapan TV channel and led other projects.
