The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia has held a press-briefing on the early presidential elections in Kazakhstan on 17 March, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Kazakh Embassy in the Russian Federation.

Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia Yerlan Baizhanov briefed the journalists on media accreditation procedures, explained several clauses of the election law of Kazakhstan and organizational aspects of the electoral campaign and election observation.

"Elections in Kazakhstan has always stirred a lot of interest among the international community. We look forward to active participation of international observers. The invitations have been sent out to international organizations, in particular the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization that is headquartered in Russia. It is expected that around 450 OSCE/ODIHR observers will be observing the elections. We believe that about the same number of observers will come from CIS countries," said the Kazakh Minister Counselor.

Baizhanov invited representatives of leading Russian media to take part in the election campaign observation in Kazakhstan. The accreditation is open from February 27 to April 20.

There is a press center at the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan for the period of preparation and holding of the elections, where observers and foreign journalists can obtain information about the elections, meet with representatives of Kazakh media, use computers and access Internet. In all the Oblast centers of Kazakhstan, as well as in the cities of Astana and Almaty, information centers will be created to assist in the work of international observers and foreign media representatives.

The Kazakh diplomat also explained the voting procedures for the citizens of Kazakhstan on the territory of the Russian Federation. On the day of the election the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Moscow and consular offices in St. Petersburg, Kazan, Astrakhan, Omsk will operate polling stations, where the citizens of Kazakhstan will be able to cast their votes.
