Kazakhstan Parliament Deputy Nurlan Abdirov suggested to grant a state decoration to alpinist Maksut Zhumayev, Tengrinews.kz reports. The deputy applied to Kazakhstan Prime-Minister at the plenary Majilis (lower chamber of Parliament) meeting on October 13.
“I would like to point out that 34-year-old Maksut Zhumayev is a captain of Kazakhstan national alpinists’ team and the only Kazakh resident who ascended Everest and K2, or Chogori. He is the only one of all Kazakhstan alpinists who doesn’t have any state awards. I think we need to acknowledge his achievements and show appreciation of the government and the community for the heroism and courage of Zhumayev, a humble young men, who hoisted the flag of Kazakhstan at all the 8-thousanders of the world for 21 times in the past 12 years. Considering this unique circumstance and the aproaching 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence, I’m asking you to nominate Maksut Zhumayev for a state decoration,” Nurlan Abdirov said.
Kazakhstan alpinists ascended K2 on August 23. This concluded his achievement of ascending all the 8-thousandrers of the world without bottled oxygen.
