Tengrinews.kz – Many Kazakhstanis are wondering how long the season at the high-altitude skating rink Medeu will remain open. The press service of the Almaty akimat has announced the exact closing date.
It was previously reported that after this season, the rink would close for renovation. The akimat recently clarified that Medeu would be open until the end of March. However, the exact closing date has now been announced.
"This year, the high-altitude skating rink Medeu will conclude its season on March 25," the akimat's statement reads.
The press service noted that the season usually ends on March 15. However, this year, due to extended public holidays and high demand, the rink will operate for ten days longer.
Nevertheless, public skating sessions will only be held in the evening:
Operating hours:
- Weekdays – 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM;
- Weekends and holidays – 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Earlier, the akimat confirmed that after this season, the Medeu skating rink would close for renovation. According to the Almaty Construction Department, the renovation of "Medeu" is planned under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contract in 2025.
As is known, an EPC contract (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) is a contractual format in which a single company (contractor) is fully responsible for delivering the project on a turnkey basis. Under this contract, the contractor is accountable for deadlines and quality. According to the Almaty Construction Department, the project cost will be determined after passing a state examination.
