Birth rate keeps growing in Kazakhstan while mortality rate is going down, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to Alikhan Smailov, Kazakhstan Statistics Agency chairman. “If we look at the demographic situation we’ll see that there is a positive trend of population growth, when birth rate is going up and death rate is going down,” Smailov said. According to Smailov, population of Kazakhstan was 16,934 thousand people as of February 1, 2013, this is 22.2 thousand people more that in the beginning of 2012. Kazakhstan population increased by 236 thousand people or 1.4% during the last twelve months from February 2012 to February 2013. “Natural population growth made 22.1 thousand people as of January 2013. Civil Registration Offices have registered 36 thousand births and this rate is 3.1% higher than in January 2012. 14.1 thousand people died and this is 3.8% more than in January 2012,” the chairman of the Statistics Agency said.
