Tengrinews.kz - Two athletes from Azerbaijan and travelers from the UK and the US decided to swim across the Caspian Sea. They plan to swim from Aktau to Baku in 30 days.

According to InAktau, four people have decided to swim across the Caspian Sea, two of them are not professional swimmers. One of them is 55-year-old writer Karl Bushby from the UK, who has been traveling for 26 years, only on foot or by swimming.

"It was my first time in Kazakhstan and I was very impressed by the Caspian Sea - it's incredible! The people here are lovely, the city of Aktau is nice and cozy," says Karl Bushby.

The traveller planned another route to Azerbaijan, but chose to go through Kazakhstan. After learning of his intention to cross the sea, the Azerbaijani authorities supported Karl Bushby and his team.

"The coach of the Azerbaijan team learned about the journey and offered me to participate. Of course, I immediately agreed — how could I refuse?" says 18-year-old Azerbaijani athlete Abdurrahman Rustamov.

Another team member is Angela Maxwell from the USA, who, like Karl, is not a swimmer.

"I have no experience in swimming. The longest distance I have swum is 2 kilometers," says Bushby.

The team also includes swimmer Abdurrahman Rustamov from Azerbaijan and 16-year-old Anastasia Baborikina, a master of short sprint swimming. They need to swim 300 kilometers across the Caspian Sea.

The travelers plan to swim an average of 10 kilometers per day.

"Everything will depend on the weather conditions. Perhaps we will swim more - 12-15 kilometers each," Bushby said.

The team’s support is fully provided by the Azerbaijani side, which includes a warship and two regular vessels.

The athletes will swim across the sea wearing diving equipment, as the Caspian Seais often stormy and the water is often cold.

"We plan to swim an average of five kilometers before lunch, rest, and then swim another five kilometers. And so on throughout the month," says Anastasia Baborikina.

Currently, all four are intensively training in Aktau. The travelers are pleased that the swim is starting from Kazakhstan, where they received such a warm welcome. The swim is scheduled for August 16.
