The patient with artificial heart who underwent the surgery in Kazakhstan has got married. The people who had surgeries on artificial heart implantation gathered in Astana to discuss problems of chronic cardiac insufficiency, Tengrinews.kz reports citing chairman of Nurly Kogam public union Saule Shaissultanova.

"The illness lasted for two years. Over these two years I had been hospitalized to the cardiology center five times. Unfortunately, the medicines did not help much. As for my life in those two years, I can say that it wasn't much of a life: swelling, insomnia, fatigue. It is hard to describe all this. But here I am, I got married 2 months after the surgery. Now, four months after the surgery you can see me almost fully recovered: alive, healthy and almost unscathed. I am just like anyone else," the youngest patient with artificial ventricle, 20-y.o. Vladislav Fertikh said.

Saule Shaissultanova said that people often misunderstand or mistreat people with artificial hearts, when they notice the devise.

"The most important is how you treat yourselves. If you understand yourself, do not bother about somebody's attention or anything else. The most important is that you are feeling well, that's it," Vladislav Fertikh said.

Speaking of the device Shaissultanova says that there is a pump connected to the left ventricle of the patient's heart to pump blood to the aorta. The engine works on the batteries. The patients carry batteries and the equipment in their bags or on a special belt. People with artificial heart are not allowed to swim and go to saunas. They use special shower bags when taking showers.

She also noted that life expectancy of the device is up to 10 years. Other surgeries are required after this period to replace the "heart".

Over 50 people have had the surgeries in the National Scientific Cardiosurgery Center and over 100 people with chronic heart insufficiency are currently in queued for their "second life".

Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that 60 artificial heart transplantations were scheduled for 2013 in Kazakhstan.
