7 families of Zhanaozen victims received 1 million tenge each

Seven families of the victims of Zhanaozen clashes have already received the compensation in the amount of 1 million tenge ($6,740) each and one injured person has been paid 500 thousand tenge ($3,000), Mangistau oblast Akim (Governor) Baurzhan Mukhametzhanov said during his visit to Beket Ata mosque in Aktau, Akim’s press-service writes. Mukhametzhanov explained which documents are required for other families of the victims and injured to receive the compensation. “I gave instructions to avoid all kinds of applications and papers. The families of the victims just need to give the number of the bank account where the money should be transferred to,” he said. According to the Akim, early termination of the state of emergency in Zhanaozen is currently being discussed. “The situation is stable in Zhanaozen. There are no disruptive activities. Children go to schools and kindergartens. People are working. Life has been normalized. The conditions are good enough to suggest termination of the state of emergency ahead of time,” the official said. Baurzhan Mukhametzhanov visited a local mosque to pay tribute to those who fell victims of Zhanaozen clashes and expressed his condolences to their families. “May there be no more such tragic days in the history of our country,” Akim wished. Clashes happened in Zhanaozen on December 16. 17 people fell victims and 100 people were injured during riots. Over 40 buildings were burnt, including town administration building, banks, commercial companies, hotels, cars and shops.
