106 boys per every 100 girls were born in Kazakhstan in 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Alikhan Smailov, head of the Statistics Agency. “372 000 births were registered between January to December 2011 by Civil Registry Offices. 366 200 births were recorded last year and this is 1.6% more than in 2010. 191 700 boys and 180 500 girls were born during this period. That is 106 boys per every 100 girls. The total birth rate made 22.5 births per every 1000 people,” Alikhan Smailov said. However, the head of the Agency added: “Generally the balance between men and women hasn't been changing in the country. We still have got a larger number of women than men at present.” “The country's population made up 16 675 000 people as of January 1, 2012, according to the current data. They include 9 114 800 people living in cities (54.7%), and 7 560 000 (45.3%) people living in rural areas. In comparison with the beginning of 2011 the country's population increased by 233 thousand people (1.4%),” the head of Statistics Agency said.
