Tengrinews.kz – Mazhilis deputy Olzhas Kuspekov has called for an end to the practice of deploying thousands of police officers at commercial concerts and sporting events, such as Jennifer Lopez’s shows and the upcoming Kairat–Real Madrid match in Almaty.
In a parliamentary inquiry addressed to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Kuspekov stressed that public order at commercial events should be ensured by private security firms, while law enforcement should focus on preventing crime and maintaining public safety.
“This year, about 1,300 police officers were deployed at J.Lo’s concert in Astana and 2,240 in Almaty, along with 600 National Guard servicemen. With private guards and volunteers, the total reached nearly 3,000 people. Now, more than 2,500 police officers and 300 National Guard troops are expected at the Kairat–Real Madrid match. Such practices raise many questions in society,” Kuspekov said.
He argued that commercial organizers profit from these events and should bear responsibility for security. Using state resources for free in such cases, he said, undermines the authority of law enforcement and public trust.
According to the deputy, Kazakhstan has about 4,000 private security companies employing some 100,000 professionals, enough to handle safety at concerts and football matches. He proposed gradually transferring responsibility to the private sector, leaving the Interior Ministry with supervisory and coordinating functions.
The historic Kairat–Real Madrid game will take place on September 30 at Central Stadium in Almaty, with ticket sales expected to open in late September.
