Tengrinews.kz — An aircraft operating the Almaty–Kyzylorda flight returned to Almaty shortly after takeoff. The airline explained the reason for the aircraft’s return.
One of our readers reported that on January 13, flight KC985 from Almaty to Kyzylorda was allegedly forced to return due to “engine vibration”. The passenger asked us to clarify the real reason behind the incident.
Airline’s response
We requested a comment from Air Astana regarding the situation. The airline explained that a warning indicator was triggered shortly after takeoff on flight KC985.
“On January 13, a warning indicator signaling a possible technical issue was activated after takeoff on an Airbus A320 operating flight KC985 from Almaty to Kyzylorda. Since the required technical specialists were not available at Kyzylorda Airport, the crew decided to return to the departure airport in accordance with the airline’s safety procedures,” the airline said.
After the aircraft was inspected by airline specialists, it was cleared for service.
“The airline’s engineering and technical service carried out all necessary checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. No malfunctions were found, and the aircraft was returned to operation,” the carrier noted.
According to the airline, weather conditions in Almaty and operational limitations of Airbus NEO aircraft required a replacement aircraft.
“Due to weather conditions in Almaty and operational restrictions on Airbus NEO aircraft, the airline was forced to replace the aircraft with a FlyArystan plane, which resulted in a longer delay,” the press service explained.
As reported by the airline, passengers were eventually able to depart after a significant delay.
“The aircraft departed with passengers at 02:34. The total delay amounted to 12 hours and 24 minutes. During the delay, the airline provided passengers with hot meals and drinks. At the request of 36 passengers, hotel accommodation was arranged. The airline apologizes for the inconvenience caused,” Air Astana said.
