The number of infertile families goes up in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to Tamara Voshenkova, Chairman of the Board of National Scientific Center of Maternity and Infancy. “The problem of infertility it is not a problem of women alone. It is a problem of infertile families. Only five-six years ago the number of infertile marriages was less than 10% of the overall number of families. And now we see 16-17% of infertile marriages,” she said. According to Voshenkova, infections are the main causes of infertility. However, it is not gonorrhea or syphilis that are widespread now, but those infections that young people inherit from their parents who suffered them some time ago. “Of course, fertility depends on the way of life as well. People living in big cities are most of the time focused on careers, achieving goals, earning money and not on the family alone. And afterwards they often fail to be successful in terms of family. Earlier, 20-30 years ago, family used to be the number one priority for women. And now financial well-being and career is the top priority, while family comes second. All these factors influence the number of infertile marriages,” Voshenkova said.
