Students of Nazarbayev University held raced their mini-robots through a labyrinth, Tengrinews.kz reports. The students were inspired by WALL-E, the character of the popular movie. Each robot is only 10 cm tall and weighs 500 grams. They had to pass a labyrinth of many corners and turns faster than their competitors. 8 teams participated in the race. Engineering students were given only two hours to program the robots. “Our main task is to program it so that the robot finds its way probing the road with its ray. We give it an algorithm that enables it to find a way in any labyrinth. As we are first-year students, we start with this simple program and will then dive deeper into this subject,” first-year chemical engineering student Assem Aliyeva said. The competition was organized as part of the class called Engineering Systems Design, a credit course for the engineering school students. 137 future engineering experts are studying in Nazarbayev University now.
