Kazakhstan is ready to create collaborative defense companies to manufacture weapon and military equipment in the country, Tengrinews reports citing President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying at the CIS Defense Ministers' Council in Astana.

“At the moment we are considering moving production of some parts of defense equipment to Kazakhstan, to work on it with other countries. We will wholeheartedly support creation of collaborative enterprises. Economic and political situation within the neighboring countries affects Kazakhstan and that is why we sincerely wish our neighbors and allies to be successful in their development,” Nazarbayev said.

This is expected to further Kazakhstan's military equipment cooperation with neighboring countries. Back in September 2013 at the Russia Arms Expo, Russian Uralvagonzavod and Kazakhstan Engineering signed an agreement to create a joint enterprise for manufacturing of Terminator tank support combat vehicles. The vehicles will be assembled in Kazakhstan starting next year.

In his speech the President of Kazakhstan stressed the importance of regular meetings of the CIS Defense Ministers' Council. “Mutually gained experience of our countries, connections, similar education systems, military education in particular, use of similar arms in our armed forces and shared borders that we protect – all of these requires preservation of strong connection between our countries,” the President of Kazakhstan said.

Nazarbayev added that amid the unstable geopolitical situation and turbulent global economy, Kazakhstan was interested in close military cooperation with its neighboring countries. “We have formed friendly relations, mutual security and a single air defense system under the Collective Security Treaty Organization. We have to preserve these relations and mutual trust,” he said.

The meeting of the CIS Defense Ministers' Council took place on June 4 in Astana and gathered representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The Defense Ministers adopted documents on further promoting of military-technological cooperation of CIS member countries, as well as relations in social, legal and humanitarian affairs.
