Kazakhstan not among 35 most powerful militaries

Kazakhstan is in the 80th place in the ranking by conventional military strength according to the Global Firepower Index, Tengrinews reports citing Business Insider.

The Global Firepower Index includes 109 countries. More than 50 factors are taken into account in the ranking, including the available manpower and equipment, total military budget and access to resources. Oil reserves, logistics, foreign exchange and gold reserves, and land area and population.

Notably, Kazakhstan’s rating does not suffer from the country being landlocked. Nor does it suffer because the country willingly gave up its nuclear weapons after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. This is because the rating does not downgrade land-locked countries for not having a standing navy and, more interestingly, the rating altogether excludes the number of nuclear warheads.

According to the rating, Kazakhstan is behind the post-Soviet countries like Russia (2), Ukraine (21), Uzbekistan (48), Azerbaijan (50), Belarus (52) and Georgia (64).

The United States of America are the leader of the ranking. The country spends $612.5 billion on its military a year and is an absolute leader in terms of the number of aircraft carriers with 10 of them gliding the oceans.
