Kazakhstan armed forces to conduct Steppe Eagle 2015 peacekeeping drills with USA

Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping battalions will conduct the Steppe Eagle 2015 exercise near Almaty together with US armed forces, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.

The planning of the international tactical and peacekeeping drills Steppe Eagle 2015 is made at the Almaty military base number 61933. 

A US delegation from the US Armed Forces consisting of 8 people led by Major Justin Colbert arrived to Kazakhstan. They are taking part in the preparations for the peacekeeping exercises.

According to the Ministry of Defense, Kazakhstan plans to engage the Kazbat peacekeeping troops and Kazbrig peacekeeping brigade of the Airmobile forces of Kazakhstan’s Army in the peacekeeping drills.

The Steppe Eagle aims to optimize compatibility of Kazbrig in peacekeeping missions. The drills also examine the ability of the peacekeeping brigade to complete missions as a part of multinational forces under combined command.

The Steppe Eagle drill gathers over 1500 peacekeepers, military observers from different countries, NATO and military-diplomatic corps very year.

Last year, the exercises took place in Germany. Kazakhstan participated along with the USA, the UK, Kyrgyzstan, Germany and Tajikistan.
