Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev promised government subsidies to bee farmers of North-Kazakhstan oblast to help them develop a new breed of bees, KazTAG reports citing deputy of Majilis (lower chamber of the Parliament) and Chairman of National Bee Farmers Association Pyotr Dmitriyenko. According to Dmitriyenko, the President promised bee farmers support in the form of government subsidies for organization of their own apiaries and development of a new breed, when he met with them during the visit to North-Kazakhstan oblast. “Nursultan Nazarbayev promised to review allocation of subsidies directly for development of apiaries in the North of Kazakhstan. Such apiaries are needed for breeding our own northern bees, that will be more resistant to cold than the southern bees,” Dmitriyenko said. Currently North-Kazakhstan bee farmers have to buy southern bees that are not used to their colder climate. “As in other areas of breeding, breeding work in bee farming is very important for marketability of the apiaries. Breeding of bees used to the northern climate is the simplest and most reliable method. Such bees are better adapted to honey flow conditions and the climate in this area,” deputy said.
