Kazakhstan is banning heavy trucks from national highways during daytime in summer to save the road-surface in the time when it is overheated by the sun and especially vulnerable, Tengrinews reports referring to the Press Office of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan.

In the period from June 1 to August 31, 2014 the limitation will be in place in Almaty, Atyrau, Zhambyl, Karaganda (Zhezkazgan district), Kyzylorda, South Kazakhstan, and Mangistau Oblasts.

In Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar and North Kazakhstan Oblasts the limitations will be in place from June 1 to August 15, 2014.

Vehicles with per axle load of 8 tons or more are going to be restricted from moving on national highways in Kazakhstan to preserve the road surface during time when air temperature is at 25°С or higher.

“This limitation is introduced every summer to preserve the road surface, as asphalt gets very hot and becomes more sensitive to loads and can be easily damaged by heavy trucks,” Deputy Chairman of Transport Control Committee under the Ministry of Transport and Communications Bolat Smagulov said.

The limitation is only for daytime - from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in southern parts and from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in northern and central parts of Kazakhstan. So the trucks will have to drive during nighttime.

Similar restrictions were in place this spring. In spring the limitation is called for by excessive moistening of road surface that also makes it vulnerable to heavy trucks.

Such practices are used in many countries that have climates similar to that in Kazakhstan.
