Tengrinews.kz – A new scam scheme has come to light. The Ministry of Healthcare has issued a warning to Kazakhstani citizens.
A woman from Kazakhstan shared a post on the social network Threads that caught our attention.
"It turns out scammers are calling people and inviting them for screening appointments, asking them to provide an SMS code from their phone. Under no circumstances should you share this code. Warn your mothers and daughters," the woman wrote.
We reached out to the press service of the Ministry of Health for comment.
"The Ministry of Health warns citizens about cases of fraud involving alleged invitations to screening examinations. Scammers call on behalf of medical organizations and ask people to confirm their appointment by providing an SMS code. We want to emphasize: no state medical institutions require confirmation via an SMS code. Such codes are typically used to log into digital services or to confirm transactions, and under no circumstances should they be shared with third parties. Scammers can use this data to access your personal accounts or digital documents, including apps such as eGov, Kaspi, banking services, and others," the ministry stated.
The Ministry urges citizens to stay vigilant:
- Do not share SMS codes with anyone, even if the caller claims to be a healthcare worker.
- Verify information through official sources: at your clinic, via eGov, or through medical information systems.
- If you suspect fraud, contact law enforcement authorities.
