Tengrinews.kz - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Bakayev has commented on the tightening of US immigration laws.
According to him, neither the Foreign Ministry nor Kazakhstan’s embassy in the US has received any appeals regarding the issue.
"Just recently, the embassy issued a statement addressing every Kazakh citizen in the US. Everyone is aware that US immigration laws are becoming stricter, and our citizens have been warned. Typically, these regulations apply to individuals who violate visa rules. Have such violations occurred before? Yes, they have. It is common for people to enter the US on a tourist visa and, due to various reasons, overlook their allowed stay period. There are specific procedures and mechanisms in place to help such individuals return home," Bakayev stated at the Mazhilis.
The deputy minister assured that the embassy is closely monitoring the situation.
"As for Kazakhstanis registered with the consulate—which is not mandatory—there are about 25,000 of them. So far, we have received no reports of Kazakhstanis being deported from the US," he added.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s embassy in the US issued a statement regarding the country’s stricter immigration policies, which aim to enhance border security and reduce illegal migration. More details on the new regulations can be found here.
