Tengrinews.kz - Several years ago, Almaty authorities introduced a project for a multi-level parking facility. However, there has been little news about its implementation. Tengrinews.kz looked into whether the project is still in progress.
According to representatives of "Almaty Parking," the project has not been abandoned.
"Following the mayor’s directive, Almaty’s construction department has been developing project and cost documentation since 2023 to complete the first municipal capital parking facility. The site is planned to be located in the Koktem-3 neighborhood," the company stated.
The parking facility is expected to accommodate 207 vehicles and will be the city's first to feature electric charging stations for electric vehicles. However, representatives noted that one of the main challenges has been the lack of power capacity for backup electricity supply.
"To address this issue, a decision was made in October 2024 to install a diesel generator unit (DGU). Currently, a land management project is being developed to obtain a land title for the DGU installation site. Additionally, approval from the city’s urban planning and development department is required for connecting external power networks," the company explained.
As for when Almaty residents can expect the parking facility to open, there is still no confirmed date.
Earlier, Almaty's mobility department reported that several key transport projects will be completed in the city in 2025.
