Tengrinews.kz – Two people were killed and two others were injured in a fatal traffic accident in the Zhambyl region. According to information circulating online, the injured are reportedly the wife and son of famous athlete Shavkat Rakhmonov.
Regional police did not confirm the identities of the victims but provided details about the incident.
“On July 27, 2025, at 08:50 a.m., at the 299th kilometer of the national highway Almaty – Yekaterinburg, the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser 200, traveling from the Karaganda region toward Almaty, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. As a result of the accident, two people died, and two were taken to the hospital,” the Zhambyl region police reported.
Authorities are conducting a pre-trial investigation under the article “Violation of traffic rules or vehicle operation by drivers resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence.”
Despite the fact that the police did not disclose the names of those killed and injured, a source told Tengrinews.kz that the wife of renowned UFC fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov was indeed in the car.
Details of the accident mentioning the athlete’s family are also circulating online in several public groups.
“The accident occurred in the Moiynkum district of the Zhambyl region. Gulayym Rakhmonova, along with her son and friends, was traveling from Karaganda to Almaty. At the 296th kilometer of the Almaty–Yekaterinburg highway, the Toyota Land Cruiser SUV overturned — she lost control of the vehicle. A 39-year-old woman died at the scene, and another woman, 35 years old, died on the way to the hospital. Rakhmonova and her son were hospitalized in Shu; their condition is moderate,” the post says.

Who is Shavkat Rakhmonov
The 30-year-old fighter from Kazakhstan is a Master of Sports in sambo and MMA, and a world champion in mixed martial arts. He has been competing professionally since 2014.
Since October 2020, he has represented Kazakhstan in the UFC. He became the first Kazakh fighter to reach a title fight in the league; however, the bout with Belal Muhammad did not take place as the opponent withdrew due to injury.
Rakhmonov holds seven victories in seven UFC fights. His most recent fight against Ian Garry ended in a decision by the judges — once again in his favor.
