Tengrinews.kz - The Institute of Zoology of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reported an interesting discovery. During an expedition in the Kyzylkum desert, staff from the arachnology laboratory managed to find two previously unknown species of spiders on Mount Karamola.
The discovered spider species have been classified as belonging to the family of hunters and have been given names.
"Two species of spiders turned out to be new to science; they were described and named Anagraphis karamola and Drassodes babenkoi. Both species belong to the family of ground hunters – Gnaphosidae. They are predominantly nocturnal, as they hide during the day (under stones, in animal burrows, cracks in rocks, or in the ground). Until now, they have managed to remain unnoticed. Now, the world has a couple fewer unknown spider species," the publication from the institute states.

It is also reported that on Mount Karamola, scientists discovered 54 species of spiders, of which 27 species were recorded for the first time in this desert, and 10 species were previously unknown in Kazakhstan. The range of some species includes countries such as Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.
