Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ratified an agreement between Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates, according to Akorda.
"The Head of State signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on the implementation of a wind power plant project'," the official statement reads.
Earlier, it was reported that a 1 GW wind power plant is planned for construction in the Zhambyl region. The facility will be capable of storing excess energy during high wind conditions and supplying it to the grid during peak demand hours, thus enhancing the resilience of the country's Unified Power System.
The agreement outlines several key provisions:
- Reduction of CO₂ emissions
- Stable integration into the national energy system
- Strengthening of energy security
- A capacity of at least 1 GW
The Settlement and Financial Center for Renewable Energy Support has been designated as the electricity offtaker. The electricity will be purchased at a rate of 4.49 cents per kWh over a 25-year period, which includes the cost of power lines, storage systems, and project profitability.
More than 400 kilometers of high-voltage power lines will be constructed to connect the wind farm. The project also includes plans to boost the transit capacity of Kazakhstan's southern power grid.
The initiative is expected to attract around $1.4 billion in investment, create 1,000 temporary and 100 permanent jobs, and generate 3.4 billion kWh of renewable energy annually.
On May 11, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi arrived in Astana for an official visit.
