Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), to discuss the development of Kazakhstan’s intellectual property sector, according to a statement from Akorda.

During the meeting, the sides discussed joint initiatives aimed at enhancing Kazakhstan’s potential in the field of intellectual property, strengthening its innovation ecosystem, and building a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

President Tokayev highlighted the role of WIPO as a key partner in helping Kazakhstan establish a robust, future-oriented intellectual property system.

"A project is currently underway to develop a National Innovation Strategy that includes an intellectual property component. It is aimed at promoting scientific research, advancing cutting-edge technologies, and creating a favorable innovation environment. Kazakhstan and WIPO are also working together to launch Technology and Innovation Support Centers," the statement read.

Daren Tang noted that Kazakhstan's recent efforts have yielded positive results, as the country improved its position in the Global Innovation Index in 2024.

WIPO is an international organization that administers several key global treaties in the field of intellectual property, including the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. Since 1974, WIPO has also operated as a specialized agency of the United Nations focused on creativity and intellectual property.

On May 29, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.

On the sidelines of the Astana International Forum, Tokayev held talks with Laurent Saint-Martin, President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, Bruno Fuchs, and executives from EDF, SUEZ, and Sanofi.

President Tokayev also met with Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, on the sidelines of the Astana International Forum (AIF).
