Tengrinews.kz — Three newborns died in a hospital in Almaty region. According to relatives of the mother who lost the babies, doctors may have made a mistake while providing medical care. This was reported in a story by Almaty.tv.
Relatives say Aidana Orazbayeva’s pregnancy had proceeded without complications for six months. According to them, on the night of July 17 to 18, the woman’s water broke and premature labor began.
She was first taken to the Zhambyl District Hospital, where she had been registered for pregnancy care. Later, the patient was transferred to the maternity hospital in Kaskelen. At 7 a.m., she gave birth to triplets. But several hours later, the family was told that two of them had died.
“In fact, we were supposed to be admitted to a city maternity hospital for a planned cesarean section. But an emergency situation arose. My son asked the doctors to send us to the city because it was triplets. He asked whether they would be able to handle such a delivery. But he was told that the fetuses were very small and that a natural birth could be accepted. The children were born at 7 a.m., and then we were told that two babies had died one after another. And even then, we learned about it not from the doctors, but through my daughter-in-law,” said the woman’s relative, Gulzhamila Toleshova.
Relatives claim that when the newborns’ bodies were handed over to them, they were not given any official documents. Moreover, after the babies’ funeral, the family returned to the maternity hospital to ask about the condition of the third child, and that was when they were shocked by another tragic piece of news.
“We came to find out about the condition of the third baby. My daughter-in-law herself could not say anything because she was only just recovering from internal bleeding. When we approached the pediatrician, he asked which child we had come for, saying that all three of our babies had died that morning. We do not understand why they hid this,” said relative Zhazira Toleshova.
“We have doubts. We are not even sure that the children handed over to us were ours. They were simply wrapped in cloth, placed in a box and handed over. We were not given any documents or forensic reports. Official papers should have been issued,” said relative Yerzhan Yekeybayev.
Karasai District Hospital said the patient was admitted at 25 weeks of pregnancy. It was impossible to transfer her to another medical institution.
“Triplet delivery at 25 weeks of pregnancy is an extremely serious case requiring emergency medical care. The woman was hospitalized. At 7 a.m., three children with extremely low body weight were born. At this stage, vital organs, especially the lungs and central nervous system, have not yet fully developed. An internal audit of the quality of the medical care provided is currently underway,” the Karasai Clinical Multidisciplinary Central District Hospital said.
After the incident, relatives contacted law enforcement agencies. They are demanding an independent and comprehensive investigation, the establishment of the causes of the newborns’ deaths, and that those responsible be held accountable. At the same time, according to the family, the body of the third baby has still not been handed over to them.
