Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstanis have been given additional time to verify their smartphones. This was announced by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry.
Earlier, the ministry had warned that starting March 24, Kazakhstan would introduce lists categorizing smartphones as white, gray, or black.
Devices on the white list will be those that have successfully passed verification and have been entered into the database. The gray list will include devices whose status requires further verification but will be temporarily allowed to operate in the network for up to 30 days. Devices on the black list will have incorrect IMEI numbers and will be permanently disconnected from cellular service.
Now, the Ministry of Digital Development has stated that a decision has been made to provide an additional period of 60 days for registering previously imported but unsold devices.
"This means that until May 25, 2025, businesses and citizens can legalize such devices on the https://kz-imei.kz portal," the statement says.
The ministry reminded that as of March 25, 2025, changes to the rules for registering subscriber devices in Kazakhstan have come into effect.
"These changes apply only to mobile devices imported into the country after this date. All phones that were already functioning in Kazakhstan’s mobile networks before March 25 will be automatically included in the white list and will continue to work without any restrictions," the ministry clarified.
Under the new requirements, all newly imported devices must undergo mandatory verification in the GSMA international database, as well as in Kazakhstan’s state tax and customs systems.
The verification process includes checking the device’s declared specifications, legality of import, supporting documents, and IMEI status in databases of stolen, lost, or blocked devices.
