Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a warning to Kazakhstani citizens and parents regarding the use of messaging and social media accounts in fraudulent schemes, citing the Polisia.kz.

According to the agency, teenagers are registering SIM cards and accounts for rewards, which are subsequently used by criminals to defraud citizens. Police reminded the public that such actions can be classified as aiding and abetting a crime.

"Scammers later use these accounts to make fraudulent calls to our citizens. Activating accounts on social networks and messengers can serve as a tool for committing fraud and other illegal acts. Under the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, such actions are classified as aiding and abetting a crime," noted Beibit Birzhanov, Head of Department at the Ministry's Cybercrime Combating Division.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends:

  • do not purchase or distribute SIM cards and devices of questionable origin;
  • do not transfer your accounts for use by third parties; parents should explain the liability and consequences of such actions to minors;
  • do not activate subscriber numbers in messengers for subsequent transfer of accounts to third parties;
  • report any suspicious devices or social media activity to law enforcement agencies.
