Tengrinews.kz - The recent aviation incident at Astana International Airport will be investigated by Switzerland, according to Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Talgat Lastayev.

On August 17, a Swissair flight SWR161 from Tokyo to Zurich made an emergency landing and veered off the runway in Astana. During a briefing, journalists inquired about the details of the incident.

"Yes, the incident occurred. The aircraft made an emergency landing. One passenger was indeed taken to intensive care. The aircraft has since been inspected and returned to its home country. All passengers were transported to their destination on another flight. According to regulations, the investigation will be conducted by the country where the aircraft is registered, which is Switzerland," Lastayev stated.

Following the emergency landing and runway excursion, Astana Airport temporarily halted flight operations.

A 52-year-old Japanese citizen was hospitalized in the intensive care unit as a result of the incident.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan has announced its intention to conduct an unscheduled inspection of Astana Airport due to "the increasing number of aircraft damage incidents in recent times."
