Tengrinews.kz - Gaining access to driving in Kazakhstan is currently too simple and requires a policy review, according to Senator Marat Kozhaev, a former first deputy minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (2019–2024).

Speaking to journalists in the Senate, Kozhaev was once again asked about the situation regarding driver's licenses in Kazakhstan.

"As someone with a background in law enforcement, I used to investigate road accidents early in my career. I handled many such cases, and I can tell you this: access to driving should not be as easy as it is here. Right now, getting a driver's license in Kazakhstan is far too simple," Kozhaev stated.

He noted that in many countries, the process of obtaining a driver's license is significantly more difficult, leading to better driver training and fewer accidents.

"Globally, getting a driver's license is a complex process. As a result, people develop the necessary skills, understand the full responsibility of operating a potentially dangerous vehicle, and, most importantly, value their licenses rather than treating them as a mere formality," the senator emphasized.

Previously, Marat Kozhaev commented on the proposal of the Mazhilis deputies to soften the punishment for drunk driving.
