Tengrinews.kz – Large families with a high level of wealth in Kazakhstan will no longer be eligible for certain social support measures. This was announced by Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, Svetlana Zhakupova.

The minister outlined the criteria by which such a decision will be made:

“If a family has a high level of well-being — that is, the per capita income exceeds four times the subsistence minimum, which is over 200,000 tenge per person. For example, if a family of 10 earns a total of 2 million tenge, owns two or more properties, and has two or more cars — this is considered a high-income family. Despite their status as a large family, they will not be eligible for certain support measures,” Zhakupova explained.

She clarified that this refers to the removal of additional social benefits.

“Such families will not receive one-time payments on commemorative dates — for example, congratulations for mothers of many children on March 8, or school-related assistance such as backpacks and other supplies. In other words, they will be expected to fully support themselves,” the minister said.

However, Svetlana Zhakupova emphasized that guaranteed state payments will remain in place:

“Everything that is paid out according to the status of a mother with many children will not be excluded. They will continue receiving those benefits. For example, a large family with 10 children will still receive monthly payments — over 120,000 tenge, or 15,000 per child,” she added.
