Tengrinews.kz - In the first three months of 2025, 13 traffic accidents involving scooter users were recorded in Almaty, all resulting in injuries. A total of 13 people were injured.
In 2024, the city saw 156 traffic accidents involving scooter riders, leaving 162 people injured.
"In an effort to reduce road accidents, police have carried out large-scale operations. As a result, 1,401 scooter riders have been held administratively responsible for traffic violations so far this year—double the figure for the same period last year," authorities reported.
However, police emphasize that it is impossible to assign an inspector to monitor every scooter rider. Instead, the focus remains on prevention, awareness campaigns, and educational efforts.
Experience continues to show that personal responsibility is key to safety. Traffic rules are not just formalities—they are written in blood. Behind each regulation is a life, a tragedy that could have been avoided.
Law enforcement officials are calling on all road users to exercise discipline and personal responsibility.
"Scooter riders must recognize that they are full-fledged participants in road traffic and must follow established rules. A particularly concerning issue is that adults often allow minors to use rented scooters. This is unacceptable! Children lack the experience and skills to safely operate such vehicles, and they do not always grasp the level of danger, which can lead to tragic consequences. In some cases, these situations have already resulted in fatalities,” the Almaty Police Department added.
Earlier, police appealed to moped and scooter drivers in Almaty.
