Tengrinews.kz - A Kazakhstani man who was released under an amnesty discovered that he had become the father of twins, citing the Department of the Penal System of Akmola Region.
According to the department’s press service, the man had been serving a sentence for a minor offense. After being freed as part of an amnesty marking the thirtieth anniversary of the Constitution, he learned about the birth of his children.
“For the man who went through a difficult period in his life, the news came as a complete surprise and an incredibly joyful shock. While he was serving his sentence, his wife Elena carried and gave birth to two healthy babies,” the statement said.
The man, identified as Kirill, said the news was the biggest surprise of his life.
“I couldn’t believe my ears when my wife told me. It was the most wonderful gift I could imagine,” he said.
His wife also shared her joy.
“Kirill is a very good man. It so happened that he was convicted, but I tried to support him and believed that his behavior and work would earn him early release. The birth of twins — a son and a daughter — brought incredible happiness to our family and gave us new strength. Now we must be a double example for our children,” she said.
On June 23, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced an amnesty in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Constitution. It will affect more than 15,000 convicts.
Earlier, it was reported that Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, the brother of Kuandyk Bishimbayev, who was convicted in the case of Saltanat Nukenova’s murder, was also granted amnesty.
