Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has once again reiterated readiness of Kazakhstan to accommodate the international nuclear fuel bank in its territory. “I am once again reiterating our readiness to accommodate the international nuclear fuel bank and I hope for your support”, Nazarbayev said when speaking at the high level meeting on nuclear safety in New York September 22. A nuclear fuel bank is a proposed approach to provide countries access to enriched nuclear fuel, without the need for them to possess enrichment technology. The basic concept is that countries who do have enrichment technology would donate enriched fuel to a "bank", from which countries not possessing enrichment technology would obtain fuel for their power reactors. Kazakhstan’s President emphasized that “all the nuclear facilities in the territory of Kazakhstan are scrutinized by the International Atomic Energy Agency”. “Today it is of paramount importance to direct all the humankind resources to prevent possible use of nuclear weapons, to remind the humankind of the grave consequences of nuclear weapons use (…)”, the President said.
