Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev suggested to introduce electronic boundaries, Tengrinews.kz reported from the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). At the meeting of the Council of Head of SCO member-states on June 15 Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his opinion on the need to create a “cyber-shield” to create protection from Internet aggression. “Separatism, terrorism, extremism and drug businesses use Internet for penetration into our countries and expansion into the world. This network destruction is another, fifth, threat for everyone. That is why the SCO countries have to immediately create a powerful shield against them. The United States already have an experience of this kind of protection; they have adopted a strict system of cyber security and implemented measures to counter cyber threats and cyber terrorism. The time has come to introduce new concepts of “electronic boundaries” and “electronic sovereignty” into the international laws. We have to support the important work of our Russian and Chinese colleagues and work out an integrated consolidated position of the SCO in this direction. At the same time we have to be open for all positive sides of the Internet that brings constructive ideas and new technologies. We may consider creating a special SCO authority working as cyber-police against Internet aggression,” Nazarbayev said. By Renat Tashkinbayev
