Tengrinews.kz - Violations of environmental standards related to vehicle emissions continue to be recorded in Almaty, according to Polisia.kz.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 7,000 such violations have been registered. The city has 19 stationary environmental checkpoints monitoring emissions levels.
Serik Shumaev, head of the local police department, reminded that as of March 13, legislative changes have come into effect: drivers exceeding permitted emission limits now face not only a warning but also a fine of 10 MCI (39,320 tenge).
Earlier, Mazhilis deputy Sergey Ponomarev called for urgent action to address Almaty’s environmental problems, describing the situation as an ecological disaster.
