Tengrinews.kz – Kazakh citizens flying to Russia are urged to arrive at the airport early.
Starting June 30, 2025, new border-crossing rules will take effect in Russia for foreign nationals, including citizens of Kazakhstan. VietJet Qazaqstan (formerly Qazaq Air) has warned passengers of possible delays during check-in and border control procedures.
According to the airline, mandatory biometric identification (fingerprinting and facial photography) will be required for entry into Russia at all border checkpoints.
"Even if there is a visa-free regime between countries, foreign nationals must now pre-register in the ESIA (Russian public services portal) system and submit an entry request through a special mobile app," the statement noted.
These changes are part of Phase II of Russia’s border entry-exit control pilot program, based on a government decree from November 7, 2024.
What travelers need to know
- Biometric data collection becomes mandatory on June 30;
- Registration in ESIA (gosuslugi.ru) is required;
- An entry form must be submitted via the mobile app at least 72 hours before departure;
- Recommended airport arrival time: at least 3 hours before flight.
“We strongly advise our passengers to allow extra time for all procedures. This will help avoid unnecessary stress and missed flights,” said VietJet Qazaqstan.
These changes aim to enhance security and automate data checks, but during the initial phase, they may cause longer wait times and airport delays.
For Kazakh citizens who frequently travel to Russia, advance preparation is crucial to avoid disruption. Up-to-date information and entry form instructions can be found on Russia’s official public services website or its mobile application.
