Tengrinews.kz - Starting July 1, 2026, additional requirements will be introduced for Kazakhstanis traveling to Russia for work or study. This was announced by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yerlan Zhetybayev.
The Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that starting July 1, 2026, citizens of Kazakhstan arriving in Russia for work or study will be required to use the ruID mobile application.
Under the established procedures, foreign nationals must create a personal profile in the app and submit an electronic application for entry into Russia.
This must be completed no later than 72 hours prior to the intended border crossing.
Once the application is reviewed, a personal QR code confirming the right to enter will be generated within the app.
"The specified QR code is valid for 90 days from the date of application," the Ministry stated.
The Ministry recommends that citizens of Kazakhstan familiarize themselves with the new entry requirements in advance and take these changes into account when planning trips to Russia.
Context
Previously, we reported on Russia’s phased introduction of new entry rules for foreign nationals, including citizens of Kazakhstan. Since June 30, 2025, a pilot program has been in place to create digital profiles for travelers, including passport data, photographs, and fingerprints. While the visa-free regime for Kazakhstani citizens remained in effect, they were required to undergo these additional border procedures.
It was also reported that the ruID app has become part of the new digital requirements for foreigners. Through the app, travelers can submit trip details in advance, undergo biometric identification, and create a digital profile before entering Russia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia advised citizens to check for any potential entry restrictions before traveling and to follow information from official sources.
