Tengrinews.kz - NASA Landsat satellites managed to capture a photo of the Chigil-Deniz Island in the Caspian Sea. It is referred to as a "ghost" or wandering island, according to Oxu.Az.

According to the portal, the island "emerged" after the eruption of the Kumani mud volcano in early 2023. By the end of 2024, the island had disappeared, only to reappear at the beginning of 2025. Scientists have recorded similar phenomena several times. The cause was the same Kumani volcano.

Eight previous eruptions occurred in bursts lasting less than two days. They created islands of various sizes, ranging from 87 to 700 meters.
