Tengrinews.kz – Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev commented on the reported leak of personal data belonging to 16 million Kazakhstanis.
In the corridors of the Mazhilis, journalists asked the minister how such a large-scale leak occurred. According to him, the leaked data is not recent, but outdated information that had already been circulating on the internet earlier.
“These are not fresh data; there was no hacking of current government databases. Most likely, this is 'historical' data that had previously leaked and is now available on the dark web. When it appears in Telegram channels, we block it. There were minor updates to the data, but the records date back to before May 1, 2024 — no recent leaks have occurred,” he stated.
Madiyev noted that information about Kazakhstani citizens periodically appears in open access.
“In the dark web, the data includes names, and sometimes IINs or phone numbers. But as soon as this information surfaces in public channels, we take action to block those Telegram channels and restrict access to the data,” he concluded.
